Unit 1
Number System & Codes – Introduction, Number System, Floating point representation of Numbers, Arithmetic operation – 1’s, 2’s, 9’s and 10’s Complement. BCD operation, Different types of codes.
Unit 2
Introduction to Boolean logic – Operations, Basic algebra, Demorgan’s theorems, Sum of Products and Product of Sums, Karnaugh Map, Quine-McCluskey Method. Logic Gates – OR, AND, NOT, NAND, NOR Gate, Exclusive Gate, Mixed logic, Multilevel Gate Networks, Multiple Gate Networks.
Unit 3
Logic families – Digital Integrated Circuits, Characteristics, RTL, RCTL, DTL, HTL, TTL logic, ECL, IIL, MOSFET, Complementary MOS logic, Characteristics, Comparison of Logic Gates. Arithmetic Circuits – Half Adder, Full Adder, K-Map Simplification, Half and Full Subtractor, Parallel Adders, Serial Adders, BCD Adders.
Unit 4
Combinational Circuits – Multiplexers, DeMUX, Decoders, Encoders, Parity Generators, Code Converters, Applications of comparators.
Unit 5
Flip – Flops – Latches, Flip-flops, S-R, J-K, D and T Flip-flops, Triggers, Master-Slave flip-flops, Realisation, Applications. Counters – Asynchronous Counter (Ripple or Serial), UP-DOWN Counter, Propagation Delay, Synchronous Counters, Counter Implementation, Applications. Registers – Shift Registers, Counters, Sequence Generators. Memory Devices – Classification, ROM, RAM, Decoding, Expansion, Programmable Memory Devices (PLD) – PLA and PAL.
Unit 6
Synchronous Sequential Circuits – Classification, Design, ASM (Algorithmic State Machine), Analysis. Asynchronous Sequential Circuits – Design, Pulse mode ASC, Problems in ASC.
Unit 7
D/A and A/D Converters – Specifications, Conversion Techniques, Multiplying D/A Converters, Sampling Process, Classifications. Clock Generators – Astable Multivibrators, Monostable Multivibrators, Bistable Multivibrators using BJT, Schmitt Trigger.
